630,000SF University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro Open for Business

NEW JERSEY—University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) is open for business. Located off of Route 1, UMCPP is the cornerstone of a 171-acre healthcare campus in Plainsboro Township. The hospital design was led by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum and RMJM Hillier. In total, the hospital cost approximately $447 million to construct.

UMCPP is comprised of approximately 630,000 sq. ft. of space on 50 acres. The facility offers 231 single-patient rooms and designated centers for cancer, surgery, neuroscience, critical care, pediatrics and more.

In addition, UMCPP offers 600-sq.-ft. operating rooms equipped with the latest equipment; a 1,777-sq.-ft. café; computer kiosks; an education center; and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center, which provides comprehensive community healthcare services to uninsured and underinsured residents.

UMCPP was constructed following U.S. Green Building Council guidelines for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard and approximately $60 million was spent on sustainable design, which achieves energy-operating cost savings of 25 percent.

In addition to the new hospital, the health campus includes a medical office building, education center, skilled nursing facility and other space to be used to promote the health and well being of residents.
