CLEVELAND—Cleveland, Ohio-based Forest City Enterprises Inc. has completed the construction of Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The anchor of the Atlantic Yards development, Barclays Center arena totals 675,000 sq. ft. of sports and entertainment space, which will serve as home to the Brooklyn Nets.
Designed by architectural firms AECOM and SHoP Architects, in collaboration with The Hunt Construction Group, the design/builder, Barclays Center will host more than 200 events annually. The exterior of the property is constructed of woven bands of weathered steel and the entrance of the facility, located at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush avenues, features a 3,000-sq.-ft., 360-degree LED marquee.
The glass-enclosed atrium contains 9,000 sq. ft. of space as well as the box office, views to a practice court and access to retail. Seating can accommodate approximately 18,000 spectators for basketball games and up to 19,000 people for concerts. In addition to general seating, Barclays Center includes 95 suites, four party suites and two conference suites, along with four bars/lounges, four clubs, a full-service club/restaurant and street-accessible retail stores.
In addition to the arena, the site includes a new Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway entrance and offers access to several subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road.
Barclays Center was designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines, with a goal of Silver certification.
