PAVLIK DESIGN TEAM EL PALACIO DE HIERRO - POLANCO * Mexico City In the category of New Department Stores, Pavlik Design Team, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was awarded the 1999 SADI for its design of El Palacio De Hierro - Polanco in Mexico City.
The designer's objective was to combine state-of-the-art planning and merchandise concepts with Old World elegance to enable the department store to become the retail leader in Mexico.
Vistas, boulevards and gallerias stretch from The Plaza Atrium, a three-story, sky-lit space that acts as the heart of the store. The layout is customer friendly, leading shoppers on an exploration from one department to the next. Customers are encouraged to visit ever-changing "retail theaters" that frame merchandise ranging from hardware to couture.
Sleek, vaulted ceilings invite shoppers through a street of shops in Juniors. The department's colorful fashions pop out from its ash walls and floors.
El Mundo Joven uses a high-energy environment and trend-setting music to entice young shoppers, while the Men's World Arcade features a variety of distinct specialty shops.
Located off one of the department store's main "paseos," a rich, wood storefront greets customers to fine jewelry. The department exudes refinement with its sable-toned wood, river-rose marble floors and sapphire area carpet.
The galleria of couture, Salon Internacional, uses almond-dust carpet and white anigre walls for a tone of understated elegance. It is the perfect backdrop for the exclusive fashions.
The toy department features colorful play zones radiating from a magical animated clock tower. Geometric shapes frame "theater walls" of animated toys and characters, while custom fixtures such as swings and slides create a fun, colorful playground for kids and their toys.
Inside the Home Gallery, arcades and shops abound. Crystal, silver, housewares and textiles come together to create the ambience of a fine home.
The store's promenades further promise international style, variety and lifestyle essentials.
