May buys Saks stores

St. Louis – Locally based May Department Stores Co. is buying nine department store locations from Birmingham, Ala.-based Saks Inc., paying $309 million for the stores and inventory.

The stores include five Proffitt’s stores in Nashville, Tenn., three Parisian locations (one each in Baton Rouge, La. and Lafayette, La., and another in Orlando, Fla.), and a McRae’s store in Baton Rouge.
