The vacancy rate at malls rose 10 basis points in the third quarter and reached a new peak of 9.4 percent, according to Reis. Rents, however, increased from $38.77 per square foot to $38.81 per square foot. Rents have generally been flat for the last seven quarters coming in at a range of $38.72 per square foot to $38.81 per square foot. Rents peaked at $40.62 per square foot in the third quarter of 2008, according to Reis.
