Wal-Mart is going to great lengths to achieve profitability in Germany, where it operates 92 supercenters. The world's largest retailer has convinced German legislators to extend the nation's strictly enforced Saturday shopping hours from a 4 p.m. close to an 8 p.m. close. “More families are being able to take advantage of the additional four weekend hours and sales have picked up as a result,” says Bear Stearns analyst Christine Augustine.
