After three years in the planning process, Brentwood, Tenn.-based Boyle Investment Co. is getting ready to break ground on the Berry Farms Town Center, phase I of its 602-acre mixed-use Berry Farms community in Franklin, Tenn. When the entire project is completed, around 2017, it will include 1,100 housing units, 1.6 million square feet of retail and 3.5 million square feet of office space.
The Berry Farms Town Center, encompassing 70 acres of land, will feature 580,000 square feet of office space, 550,000 square feet of retail space and a large residential component, including 135 townhouses, 164 apartments, 180 condominiums, 143 single-family homes and 24 live/work lofts. Company officials expect the ground-breaking to take place later this fall.
In creating the master plan for Berry Farms, Boyle Investment Co. aspired to incorporate elements of the new urbanism movement, which focuses on traditional, transit-oriented neighborhood design and puts emphasis on creating pedestrian-friendly environments.
