Point of Entry: Make Meaning

Category: Entertainment

Current stores: One, in New York City, with a second city site coming.

Planned openings: The chain has the potential to roll out between 50 and 100 stores nationally, according to Amy Kotulski, vice president of marketing with Make Meaning.

Average store size: 6,000 sq. ft. Target audience: Children and adults looking for a fun activity.

Buzz: Make Meaning appeals to a wide range of customers, from little kids to grown-ups looking for something to do on a first date, says Michael Glimcher. The venue offers six main craft areas: candles, glass, soap, jewelry, ceramics and paper. You can go alone, or organize a private party. Plus, there is a café. And if you have any doubt about Make Meaning’s level of experience in operating multiple retail venues, its vice chairman is a former CEO of IKEA.
