Work is under way to transform the 800-year-old Tahan Caravanserai in Turkey — a popular caravan stopping point for centuries — into a shopping center. The caravanserai, located in the Hekimhan district of Malatya, will be transformed without damaging its structure. The building has a porticoed square court in front and a hall behind the court. The court is surrounded by rooms of different sizes with vaulted ceilings, and there is an oven in each room. The center will open in 2008.
