ChainLinks President Dies Bill Horvath, president of San Antonio-based ChainLinks, died Nov. 23 after an 11-month battle with cancer. Horvath was 53.
Horvath joined ChainLinks, an international organization of commercial real estate brokers and retail advisors, in 1994 as executive director. Horvath became president of ChainLinks in September 1998. He also served on the editorial advisory board of Shopping Center World.
Born in Detroit, Horvath graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1970. Prior to joining ChainLinks, he served as senior vice president of real estate for H.E.B. Food Stores. Horvath was active in organizations such as Planned Parenthood, YMCA and his local National Public Broadcasting station. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and two daughters.
Frankel's Home Furnishings Inc. Joseph Nusim, chairman of the board of Frankel's Home Furnishings Inc., Port Washington, N.Y., has taken on the responsibility of president and chief executive officer following the resignation of William Gatta from the position. Also at the company, Kevin Healy has been named vice president and chief financial officer. Healy, who held various financial positions with Ames Department Stores over a 15-year period, was most recently vice president and chief financial officer of ECI Corp.
Koll Development Co. Gerald O. Yahr has been named partner, executive vice president and corporate secretary for Newport Beach, Calif.-based Koll Development Co. Yahr joins Koll's two other partners, Donald M. Koll, chairman and CEO, and Richard M. Ortwein, president, in directing all aspects of the organization's development and acquisition operations. As executive vice president and corporate secretary, Yahr is responsible for managing the company's financial affairs. Previously, Yahr served as executive vice president of Koll's Western division, overseeing development and acquisitions in California, Nevada and Colorado.
Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute Steven R. Hawkins has been named regional manager of both the Southern states and greater Southwestern regions for the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), Schaumburg, Ill. Hawkins will be responsible for increasing the exposure of reinforced concrete systems with design professionals, and for expanding CRSI membership. Hawkins joins CRSI with 20 years experience as a marketing professional in the architectural/engineering industry. Based in Atlanta, Hawkins' territory will include Texas, Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas.
Forest City Commercial Management Fred T. Walters of Cleveland-based Forest City Commercial Management has been named general manager of The Grand Canal Shoppes, a planned 500,000 sq. ft. themed indoor mall at The Venetian Resort~Hotel~Casino in Las Vegas. Walters will be responsible for all aspects of shopping center management related to The Grand Canal Shoppes, including direction of all operations such as retail marketing, maintenance, housekeeping, security and customer service. He also will handle all merchant relations. Most recently, Walters served as the general manager of Antelope Valley mall in Southern California.
Burnham Retail Group Carolyn Perrigo has been appointed portfolio manager for San Diego-based Burnham Retail Group, a division of John Burnham & Co. * ONCOR International. Perrigo is responsible for overseeing a retail portfolio of more than 1 million sq. ft.. Perrigo rejoins Burnham after serving four years as director of asset and property management for Newport National Corp. Previously with Burnham, she has served as a real estate manager in the San Diego office managing 1.2 million sq. ft. of property.
The Staubach Co. Elysia Holt has been named chief operating officer of Staubach Corporate Services -- West, and James Underhill has been named chief operating officer of Staubach Corporate Services -- East. In addition, both Holt and Underhill have joined the company's executive committee and will retain their positions as presidents of their respective regions. Holt and Underhill will be responsible for opening new Staubach offices in key markets, providing real estate and financial services to clients and ensuring client satisfaction.
Robert K. Futterman & Associates LLC Karen Bellantoni has joined New York-based Robert K. Futterman & Associates LLC as associate director of retail leasing for landlords and tenants. Bellantoni's responsibilities include tenant representation, retail brokerage in Manhattan and the greater New York area, and U.S. expansion. Previously with Corporate Property Investors, Bellantoni handled the leasing activities for new tenants, particularly those in the company's upscale malls.
Hiffman Shaffer Associates Inc. Todd J. Cabanban has been promoted to executive vice president and managing director of the retail brokerage division of Chicago-based Hiffman Shaffer Associates Inc. (HSA). Cabanban has more than 10 years of commercial real estate experience. He has spent the past nine years in HSA's retail division.
