The cover of this month's National Real Estate Investor features The Promenade in Temecula, a 740,000 sq. ft. mall in Temecula, Calif., that is owned by Los Angeles-based Forest City Development. KA Inc. Architecture, located in Cleveland, designed the facility, which was completed in fourth-quarter 1999.
The Promenade, located 85 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 5 miles north of San Diego County, is a two-level mall anchored by Sears, JCPenney and Robinsons-May. It contains an outdoor plaza and a 14-screen theater that features stadium-style seating and a state-of-the-art sound system. The mall also features a food court on its lower level. The food court promotes a jazz theme, and a robotic jazz band plays music for the patrons.
At its center court, The Promenade contains a small fountain surrounded by leather sofas and chairs. This furniture is movable and thus allows the center court to be used for special events and promotions.
Designed to attract families, the mall also features a children's court, which contains a computerized bear that tells stories. This section also contains games and flowers. For parents, there are benches to sit and watch their children play.
The mall's exterior promotes a theme of relaxation. An outdoor plaza provides a place for shoppers to listen to concerts.
