The New York City economy added 3,800 new private sector jobs in April. Conversely, 1,000 government jobs were eliminated, according to the New York State Department of Labor. Information, business and professional services showed the biggest improvement, adding 2,400 jobs, an annualized rate of increase of 5.4%.
New York City’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped from 7.9% in March to 7.5% in April — its lowest level since February 2002. Year-over-year declines in unemployment figures show marked improvement in all five boroughs.
