Simon Property Group Inc. and Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. will develop upscale outlet centers in Charlotte, N.C. and Columbus, Ohio.
In Charlotte, Simon and Tanger plan to build Charlotte Premium Outlets, a 350,000-sq.-ft. center located at the interchange of I-485 and Steele Creek Road. Opening is scheduled for the spring of 2014.
In Columbus, the firms plan to build Tanger Outlets, which will also contain approximately 350,000 sq. ft. of space. The center is scheduled to open in time for the 2014 holiday season.
“We are pleased to partner with Tanger to bring great outlet shopping to both Charlotte and Columbus,” said Simon Premium Outlets President John R. Klein in a statement. “Both of these projects provide the most compelling locations for our merchants and our customers and will best serve the Charlotte and Columbus communities. Our recent joint venture in Texas City, Texas has gotten off to a great start and we look forward to developing two more successful projects together.”
In an unrelated announcement, Tanger Factory Outlet Centers and Peterson Cos. broke ground for Tanger Outlets National Harbor, a $100 million, 340,000-sq.-ft. outlet center in Washington, D.C. Tanger and Peterson Cos. will each own a 50 percent stake in the project. Tanger will also provide management, leasing and marketing services for the property.
When completed, the center will contain about 80 stores, including Calvin Klein, H&M, IZOD, Gap Factory Store, American Eagle Outfitters, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic Factory Store and White House Black Market Outlet, among others.

DJM Capital to Build Retail Center in Huntington Beach
DJM Capital Partners acquired approximately 11 acres of land for the development of a retail/hotel project in Huntington Beach, Calif. The project will be part of a larger mixed-use center and will feature 191,000 sq. ft. of open-air retail, restaurants and entertainment venues. The remaining land will be used to build an eight-story hotel.
Jerde Partnership will serve as the architect on the project, Lifescapes International will be the landscape architect and SMS the executive architect.
New Shopping Center Coming to Panama City Beach
The St. Joe Co., Casto and Strategic Retail Advisors formed a joint venture to develop Pier Park North, a 390,000-sq.-ft. shopping center in Panama City Beach, Fla. Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels, Pier 1 Imports and Kirkland’s will occupy the property. Opening is scheduled for the spring of 2014.
NewMark Merrill Wins Seven New Management Assignments
NewMark Merrill Cos. has been appointed as the property management agent for seven properties in California totaling 415,726 sq. ft. The assignments include:
12416 Santa Monica Blvd., a 17,227-sq.-ft. shopping center in Los Angeles;
Stanford Court Properties, a 31,578-sq.-ft. shopping center in Santa Monica;
Sepulveda Plaza Center, a 49,420-sq.-ft. shopping center in Van Nuys;

Levin Picks up New Jersey Leasing, Management Contracts
Levin Management secured several new assignments.
The firm has been appointed as the leasing and management agent for a portfolio of shopping centers in Tappan, N.Y., including the 44,000-sq.-ft. Tappan Plaza, an adjacent 15,000-sq.-ft. shopping center and Stateline Plaza I and II, two twin strip centers totaling 17,000 sq. ft.
Levin has also been appointed as the agent for 16,000 sq. ft. of urban street retail on Springfield Avenue in Irvington, N.J.
In addition, the firm will manage a 15,000-sq.-ft. bank-owned property in Central New Jersey.
L3 Corp. Closes Multiple Transactions
L3 Corp. negotiated multiple leases in October and November.
Dick’s Sporting Goods signed a lease with F&F Development LLC for a 45,000-sq.-ft. store at Stoneridge Village Shopping Center. L3 Corp. represented the landlord in the transaction.
PetSmart signed a lease with 45 Development Group LLC for a 30,000-sq.-ft. store at Quarry Shopping Center in Fort Smith, Ark. L3 represented the tenant.
PetSmart signed a lease with St. Joseph Partners LLC for a 12,335-sq.-ft. store at Cook Crossing Shopping Center in St. Joseph, Mo. L3 represented the tenant.
Ross Stores signed a lease with Pace-Central Associates LLC for a 25,198-sq.-ft. store at Central Plaza Shopping Center in Ballwin, Mo. L3 represented the tenant.

Jones Lang LaSalle appointed John Bemis as Atlanta retail market lead. In his new position, Bemis will oversee Jones Lang LaSalle’s retail platform, including tenant representation, landlord representation, property management, accounting services and development, across the Atlanta market. Previously, he served as director of leasing and development.
Englewood Construction completed work on a Spanx store at Tyson’s Corner Center in McLean, Va. and an American Girl store at The Falls in Miami. The Spanx store will be the retailer’s first physical location in the United States. Bergmeyer Associates served as the architect on the project.
