McCarthy Breaks Ground on $28M Rehab Center

SPRINGFIELD, MO—McCarthy Building Co., based in St. Louis, broke ground here Tuesday on a $28 million rehabilitation hospital for a partnership of Mercy and Centerre Healthcare.

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Springfield will have 60 beds and provide inpatient rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries and other conditions.  Construction is expected to be completed in early 2014.

Duke Realty Corp. will own the 63,000-sq. ft. building, and the health care system will be the tenant. Springfield. Nashville, Tenn.-based Earl Swensson Associates Inc. is the project architect.

McCarthy is also building the $116 million Mercy Orthopedic Hospital next door. The company placed the final steel beam on the 200,000-sq.-ft. hospital in June 2012, and the property is set to be complete in August of this year.
