Retail sales at furniture and home furnishing stores in May were the highest they’ve been in six years, reaching a seasonally adjusted $8.55 billion, according to the U.S. Commerce Department’s just released report. The growth can be attributed to a number of factors, including recovery in the housing sector, an improved economy and consumers’ willingness to spend again, even on big-ticket items.
