More Mall Brawls

Getting big projects built can take a lot of cajoling and often devolves into outright battles between developers, communities and sometimes even owners of other projects (as with Taubman Centers' proposed Oyster Bay project on Long Island).

Another project that has faced challenges is the proposed District in Edina, Minn. But it looks like the project may be moving ahead.

Two years after it was proposed, a project on a prime piece of land in Edina finally is moving forward -- minus the high-rise condominium tower that prompted a lawsuit by neighborhood residents and stalled the development.

The Edina City Council recently approved an all-retail development on the site of an AMC theater that closed in 2005. The project is the first in the Twin Cities for Cypress Equities, a Dallas-based affiliate of a real estate company owned by pro football Hall of Famer Roger Staubach.
