February looked better than previous months. According to ICSC's index, same-store sales were down 0.1 percent (pdf, membership req.) according to its index of 35 chains. Meanwhile, Retail Forward's look at the numbers indicates a 0.4 percent rise. (A pdf with chain-by-chain results can be downloaded here).
According to ICSC, luxury stores again led the decline--down 19.2 percent. Department stores were down 9.8 percent and apparel chains were down 7.9 percent. Discount stores, meanwhile, were up 3.1 percent and Wholesale clubs were up 5.0 percent.
