Construction starts edged up 3 percent in South Florida in the first half of 2017, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. The firm tracked $5.66 billion in construction starts in the tri-county area, up from $5.51 billion during the same period a year ago. A boom in nonresidential projects, such as offices, retail, hotels, warehouses, educational, health care and government, overcame a drop in residential project. Nonresidential construction starts soared 55 percent to $3.06 billion.
