Whole Foods plans landmark store, HQ in Austin

Organic foods supermarket retailer Whole Foods Market has announced plans for a new 80,000 sq. ft. store and 200,000 sq. ft. office tower in downtown Austin, Texas. Austin-based Schlosser Development Corp. will develop the property located on Lamar Boulevard.

The Whole Foods store will be the largest currently in development, more than doubling the size of the company’s current downtown Austin location. The office tower will house the store’s corporate headquarters. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2005.

"Whole Foods Market has an aggressive growth goal to more than triple our store base to 400 stores by the year 2010," says Jim Sud, executive vice president of growth and business development.

Whole Foods operates a chain of 131 natural food stores, with annual sales of $2.3 billion in fiscal 2001.
