IRVINE, CA/DALLAS – Auction.com, the nation’s leading online real estate marketplace, raised $50,000 during a charity guitar auction on Sept. 10, 2013. Proceeds benefitted the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that builds affordable homes for those in poverty, and the Military Warriors Support Foundation, which provides assistance for wounded veterans through home donation, academic and employment assistance and recreational activities for families.
The charity auction was part of the closing ceremony at the tenth annual Five Star Conference and Expo in Dallas, Tex., which focuses on real estate and mortgage servicing education. Auction.com was this year’s host sponsor.
Legendary rock band Cheap Trick, best known for their hit 1975 single “I Want You to Want Me,” signed 10 electric guitars for the auction, and performed popular songs including “Surrender” and “Dream Police” right after the auction concluded.
“It was a lot of fun auctioning off these guitars to benefit two incredibly worthy organizations,” said Rob Friedman, co-founder and chairman of Auction.com, who was the auctioneer of the evening. “It’s a natural fit for Auction.com to partner with philanthropies like Habitat for Humanity and the Military Warriors Support Foundation given our industry knowledge and their commitment to providing homes for those in need.”
Friedman personally conducted the live auction of 10 Cheap Trick-signed guitars for a total of $25,000. The highest bid achieved for a single guitar was $7,000. Auction.com matched the sum dollar-for-dollar, raising a total of $50,000, which will be split evenly between the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
“To raise $25,000 in less than five minutes was tremendous for us,” said Beverly Stibbens, Director of Corporate Engagement with Dallas Habitat for Humanity. “We are so grateful to Auction.com for this amazing contribution to our organization, which will be used to build a home for a deserving family through our Dream Dallas campaign.”
Auction.com demonstrates the company’s commitment to philanthropy through its support of these organizations and others such as Race for the Cure, http://ww5.komen.org/and JoyJars™, http://joyjars.negu.org/for kids fighting cancer.
