BROOKLYN, NY – Jason Halpern announced today that JMH Development has leased the final two retail spaces at 184 Kent, the luxury rental building on Williamsburg’s waterfront. Kidville, a learning and activity center for children, signed a 15-year lease for a 4,450-square-foot space. NYC Pets, a pet supply store with locations throughout Brooklyn, also recently signed a 10-year lease for 1,800-square-feet of space.
“These two retail tenants round out the retail mix in our building very nicely,” said Jason Halpern, president of JMH Development, the company that transformed 184 Kent into luxury rentals. “I am pleased that neighborhood as a whole will also benefit, as Kidville and NYC Pets fill what had been a void on the Williamsburg waterfront.”
Geoff Bailey, formerly of TerraCRG, represented 184 Kent in both transactions. Kidville was represented by Craig Hantgan of Esquire Properties, and NYC Pets was represented by Taylor Dow and Vince Sweeney of Gotham City Group.
A remarkable riverside structure that was originally designed by Cass Gilbert,184 Kent Avenue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and originally served as a warehouse for Austin, Nichols & Company, once one of the nation’s largest grocery wholesalers. Since leasing of the property’s 338 apartments began in 2010, 184 Kent has had little or no residential vacancy. Apartments that do become available fetch around $60 per square foot.
