Home Depot, Vons to anchor 820,000 sq. ft. California center

Home Depot and Vons will be the first two anchors at Eastvale Gateway, an 820,000 sq. ft. community center in Southern California’s Inland Empire. The cost was undisclosed.

The two anchors account for nearly 25% of the retail center, located at 1-15 and Limonite in Riverside County. Home Depot will take 115,000 sq. ft., while Vons will open a 55,000 sq. ft. supermarket.

According to Randall Lewis, principal and executive vice president of Upland, Calif.-based Lewis Retail Centers, the developer of the project, explosive growth in the market has attracted strong retailers to Eastvale Gateway. There are 55,000 new homes in the $230,000 to $400,000 range planned for the center’s trade area.

"Beyond the tremendous future growth here, current residents are starved for retail, dining and entertainment options," Lewis said in a statement. "Eastvale Gateway will be the first shopping center of any kind within a five-mile radius."

The first phase is scheduled to break ground in spring 2003, and open in winter 2003.
