Weather consultant firm Planalytics predicts an exciting back-to-school season for retailers. According to their forecasts, positive factors, at least for retailers, will be in play this September. Cold weather is anticipated, with an increased number of cool mornings -- a primary driver of store traffic.
The cold weather will offer the most favorable conditions retailers have seen in three years. According to Merrill Lynch analyst Mark Friedman, the sectors that will benefit the most will be specialty apparel retailers and retailers with a heavy concentration of back-to-school products. Planalytics says the Midwest and the eastern United States will see the most gains in sales due to weather.
