WYOMING, MICH.—The Department of Veterans Affairs has selected U.S. Federal Properties Co. of Kansas City, Mo. to serve as the contractor to build the Grand Rapids Outpatient Clinic in Wyoming, Mich. The contract will create 293 construction jobs while the facility is being built.
Upon completion in 2014, VA will pay an annual rent of $4.1 million for 20 years.
The contract calls for construction of a two-story building at 5870 Metro Way, SW, in Wyoming, Mich. The project includes 96,000 sq. ft. of space for specialty care, mental health, radiology, pharmacy and primary care services. In addition, 473 parking spaces are planned.
“This new facility will ensure that Michigan’s veterans continue to have the world-class medical care that they’ve earned through their service to our nation,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.
The clinic will provide outpatient services for nearly 18,000 veterans annually in the western Michigan area.
Last year, VA spent $2.9 billion providing healthcare, benefits and services to Michigan’s 700,000 Veterans. VA operates major medical centers in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Detroit, Iron Mountain and Saginaw, with outpatient clinics and Vet Centers across the state and national cemeteries at Ft. Custer and Great Lakes.
VA operates one of the nation’s largest integrated healthcare systems in the country. With a healthcare budget of more than $50 billion, VA expects to provide care to 6.1 million patients during 920,000 hospitalizations and nearly 80 million outpatient visits this year. VA’s healthcare network includes 152 major medical centers and more than 800 community-based outpatient clinics.
