CHICAGO—Michigan Plaza, a 1.95 million-sq.-ft., two-building office complex has earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
This certification recognizes sustainability improvement measures implemented by ownership and MB Real Estate. Green actions initiated at Michigan Plaza include:
• The implementation of water efficiency solutions, which are expected to reduce consumption by 4.05 million gallons annually.
• Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions resulting in 1,436 metric tons of CO2 saved annually.
• Implementation of a green cleaning policy.
• Recycling of 80 percent of construction materials.
• Achievement of Energy Star designation.
“Green buildings have always made good business sense due to the resulting long-term energy savings,” said Steve Hennessy, vice president/general manager of MB Real Estate. “However, just as significant as the cost-savings, is the number of tenants factoring green policies in their decision making process.”
Leased and managed by MB Real Estate, Michigan Plaza was developed in 1982 and was designed by Fujikawa Johnson.
