Whole Foods Takes 39,000 Sq. Ft. on Upper East Side

NEW YORK—Whole Foods market has signed a 39,000-sq.-ft. lease at 1551 Third Ave., a 30-story residential tower, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Slated to open in 2014, the location will be the grocer’s eighth location in Manhattan and its first on the Upper East Side.

RKF Executive Vice President Gary Alterman represented the owner of 1551 Third Avenue, Milstein Properties, in the long-term lease transaction. Whole Foods was represented by Chase Welles and Jacqueline Klinger of SCG Retail.

The three-level store will occupy the entire block between 87th and 88th streets along Third Avenue and take up the first two stories and lower level of the building.

Founded in 1980, Whole Foods Market now has 336 locations in North America and the United Kingdom.
