Uniqlo Takes New York

Japanese giant Uniqlo, is preparing to make a splash in the U.S. in a big way as it prepares to open its largest store in the world this September in New York City.

Uniqlo already has a presence in the U.S., with three stores in New Jersey malls. But its New York location, which will open in SoHo at 546 Broadway, will contain 36,000 square feet of selling space spread over three floors. It will also carry merchandise not found at its other locations. “They picked the absolute right location. That neighborhood is perfect for them — they are next to Guess and H&M and Zara,” says Faith Hope Consolo, chairman of the retail leasing and sales division with Prudential Douglas Elliman.
