Valparaiso University Expands College of Arts and Sciences with Help from McShane

ROSEMONT, ILL.—McShane Construction Company has completed a two-story, 51,500-sq.-ft. addition to Valparaiso University’s College of Arts and Sciences located in Valparaiso, Ind. Working with McShane were EHDD Architecture, which provided the architectural services, and KJWW Engineering, which provided the structural engineering. MEP consulting services was also brought in for the assignment.

Recently certified as a LEED-Silver facility by the U.S. Green Building Council, the new classroom and office addition was integrated into the campus’ library.

The building includes a lobby space, offices, teachers’ lounge and flexible office and classroom areas equipped with audio/visual equipment.

To meet LEED-Silver requirements, an energy-efficient HVAC system, recycled and low-VOC materials and certified wood products were used. During construction, McShane recycled material waste at the job site to ensure excess materials were broken down or reused.
