Mixed-Use Waterfront Project Unveiled

Four developers have announced plans to build a 120-acre mixed-use project on an active shipyard in Hingham, Mass. The Hingham Shipyard project will include apartments, condominiums, restaurants, shops, waterfront parks, and office space. Construction is expected to begin by next spring. The total project cost was not disclosed.

“We are very excited to be a part of this master plan community,” says Michael Roberts, vice president of development for AvalonBay Communities. “We are confident that it will become a center piece for Hingham and the entire south shore area.”

AvalonBay Communities, a listed REIT, is building 235 luxury apartment homes at the site. Roseland Property Company will complete 150 townhouses and Samuels & Associates will develop 240,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space. The marina will continue to be operated by Sea Chain. The developers plan to attract more than a dozen local and national retailers and restaurants to the project.
