KANSAS CITY, MO – The Thornton Tomasetti board of directors and managing principals announce the promotion of Jimmy Liu, P.E., S.E., LEED AP BD+C, to vice president in the firm’s Kansas City, Mo. office. He has been with Thornton Tomasetti since 2005.
Mr. Liu has more than 20 years of structural engineering experience on projects in the U.S., Asia and the Middle East. His areas of expertise include seismic design, long-span and complex roof structures, the design of new structures, and renovations and expansions for sports and public assembly facilities. Mr. Liu’s portfolio also includes design and detailing for office towers, healthcare and educational facilities, and post-disaster damage assessments of existing structures.
He is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the Structural Engineers Association of Kansas and Missouri (SEAKM), and the Missouri Structural Assessment and Visual Evaluation (SAVE) Coalition, a group of volunteers that performs rapid safety assessments for the state’s emergency management agency.
Mr. Liu is a licensed structural and professional engineer in California, Oregon and Washington;a licensed professional engineer in Missouri; and a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri.
