Online Report Provides Income and Market Data
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International has released a new online report that provides comprehensive data on commercial real estate income and operating expenses by market, using advanced Web-based technology. Previously, the Experience Exchange Report (EER), developed in collaboration with San Francisco-based research firm Kingsley Associates, was available only in book or CD formats.
The new online system helps users query data by market, submarket, building size, building type, building age, and ownership type. Users can conduct analyses, build budgets and create presentations using the system, which exports data into charts, PDFs and Excel files.
The program accesses data from earlier reports, allowing users to run historical performance comparisons. The data-computing system has the capability to crunch nearly 15 million data points in less than 40 seconds.
“The retooling of the EER comes at a critical time, as industry professionals recognize that benchmarking is paramount to success in a down economy,” said BOMA International Chair James Peck, senior director of asset services at CB Richard Ellis. Because the online report can be generated quickly using income and expense data, it provides a more sophisticated performance analysis than earlier versions, he added.
The 2009 EER includes data from nearly 4,000 buildings in nearly 300 markets in the U. S. and Canada. It records national trends analysis and market-level reports. The information includes data on special use facilities, such as medical office buildings and corporate facilities. The data can be used to gauge a portfolio’s performance and assess how it is financially positioned in its market and comparable markets, according to BOMA.
